Our company's primary export route historically led to Russia, facilitated by the 1,500-kilometer Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (UAS) pipeline, with Samara serving as the principal export outlet. This route has been integral to our export operations.
Since 2001, our export capabilities have been further bolstered by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's (CPC) 1,510-kilometer pipeline, which connects to the Russian city-port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. This route has proven to be more financially advantageous for our company, and consequently, we have worked diligently to increase the proportion of our exports conducted via the CPC pipeline.
This strategic shift reflects our commitment to optimizing our export operations for the benefit of our company and stakeholders.
Given Kazakhstan's predominantly landlocked geography, the need for enhanced transportation infrastructure is crucial to facilitate increased export production. Fortunately, there have been significant improvements in this regard in recent years.
Our refinery benefits from consistent access to pipeline infrastructure, thanks to its robust relationship with its parent company. Notably, the Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (UAS) and Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipelines serve as vital export routes for the company.
Furthermore, the Atyrau refinery receives a significant portion of its supply from KMG EP, reinforcing the collaborative ties within Kazakhstan's energy sector.
Additionally, our refinery plays a pivotal role as a supplier of crude oil to the Kazakhstan-China pipeline, underlining its position as a key contributor to the region's energy supply chain.
Despite Kazakhstan's reliance on its neighboring countries to facilitate the export of its oil, the nation boasts a rapidly expanding and diverse export market. The business has successfully obtained access to the company oil transport infrastructure, thanks to its strong connections with its parent company. In 2016, our refinery exported a substantial portion of its crude oil production, with 59% coming from its core assets, UMG and EMG. During this period, the CPC pipeline played a pivotal role in exporting 26% of the company's crude oil sales, while the UAS pipeline contributed significantly by exporting 33%. These figures underscore the company's active participation in and contribution to the dynamic landscape of Kazakhstan's oil exports.
